Email client settings
You can use Silvabird with any standard email client, such as Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, or the mail app on your phone. Enter the server settings below, and sign in with a device password rather than your normal account password. If you haven't set this up yet, see Device passwords.
Server settings
Incoming mail (IMAP)
- Server:
imap.silvabird.com - Port: 993
- Security: SSL/TLS
Incoming mail (POP3)
- Server:
pop.silvabird.com - Port: 995
- Security: SSL/TLS
Outgoing mail (SMTP)
- Server:
smtp.silvabird.com - Port: 465
- Security: SSL/TLS
All connections use SSL/TLS, sometimes called implicit TLS, so your data is encrypted from the moment you connect. Silvabird doesn't offer STARTTLS ports or unencrypted connections. If your client asks whether to use STARTTLS, choose SSL/TLS instead. If it offers to work out the settings for you, that's fine too.
IMAP or POP3?
For incoming mail you can usually choose between IMAP and POP3. In most cases IMAP is the better choice, because it keeps your mail on the server and in sync across all of your devices. POP3 downloads your mail to a single device instead.
POP3 only lists the 250 most recent messages in your inbox. If you have more mail than that, or you want it to stay in sync across your devices, use IMAP.
Signing in
For both incoming and outgoing mail, sign in with:
- Username: your full email address (for example
you@yourdomain.com) - Password: your device password
The username and password are the same for the incoming and the outgoing server. If your client asks whether the outgoing (SMTP) server needs authentication, it does, so leave that turned on.
