Device passwords
To connect an email client or a contacts app to Silvabird, you add it as a device and use the device password Silvabird gives you, instead of your normal account password. Each device has its own password.
This keeps your account safer. If a device is ever lost or stolen, you can sign it out on its own. Your other devices keep working, and you never have to change your account password.
Add a device
- Sign in to the webmail app at app.silvabird.com.
- Open Settings and go to the Devices section.
- Select Add device.
- Give the device a name you'll recognize later, such as "iPhone Mail".
- Choose what the device is allowed to access:
- Email (IMAP/POP3) for reading and managing your mail.
- Email sending (SMTP) for sending mail.
- Contacts (CardDAV) for syncing your contacts.
An email client needs both Email (IMAP/POP3) and Email sending (SMTP). A contacts app needs Contacts (CardDAV). - Confirm, and Silvabird shows the password for this device.
The device password is only shown once, so copy it before you close the dialog. If you lose it you can't look it up again, but you can always add the device again.
Signing in
When an app asks for your details, enter your full email address as the username and the device password as the password. From there, follow the guide for what you're setting up:
Signing out a device
To remove access for a device, go back to Settings and Devices, select the device, and sign it out. Its password stops working straight away, and none of your other devices are affected.
